An Chailleach is probably a very old, pre-Gaelic divinity. She is the wisdom of the Old Woman, and the harsh yet loving aspects of the natural cycles of death, rebirth and life. It translates roughly as 'the veiled one'.

The Ogham around the eye spells the words 'Féth Fiada', which is a common motif in Irish mythology; a 'magical mist' that renders its user invisible or otherwise safe from any harm. Deriving from Old Irish, the words translate roughly as 'knower of the mist'.

May the carrier of this charm be safe, protected by the love and wisdom of those who have walked before them.
